Answer by Geoff G
This is not particularly good background for work in astronomy. You will need lots of mathematics and physics. You also need to get rid of the “texting” if you want to be taken seriously.

Philips PCRW1610
With the introduction of buffer underrun protection, I decided to buy my first CD recorder in February of 2002. The Philips PCRW1610 is one of the early drives equipped with such a technology and, as the name implies, can record CD-Rs and -RWs with speeds of up to 16x and 10x respectively. Although a more conservatively styled OEM drive (CDD4911) utilizing the same internals was also manufactured, retail models in Philips’ contemporary line-up are distinctive compared to the average appearance of optical disk drives – with the drawback that it could prevent the front door of some computer cases from closing properly. Today, the company still offers DVD recorders sourced from the Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions Corporation (PLDS) joint venture, but the likely identical Lite-On products appear to have a larger presence on the market.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 21, 2012

A dozen international media artists bring the dynamic field of mobile art to LA Re.Play: An Exhibition of Mobile Media Art at the DESMA Grad Art Gallery, Broad Arts Center at UCLA, and the L.A. Convention Center February 22 through 26, 2012.

The exhibition and companion lectures and events explore how smartphones, GPS, networks, location-based games, situated video and sound engage mobile technologies to transform our sense of past and present, near and far.

“Art that integrates mobile phones, networks, and geo-located audio/visual media reveals how new ‘mixed reality’ experiences allow participants to explore a different sense of place” says co-curator Mimi Sheller. “We are inspired to slow down, to sense and make sense of the city spaces that we move through every day.”

Artists and collaboratives include the Electronic Disturbance Theater/b.a.n.g. lab, Ecoarttech, Manifest.AR and en route/Past City Future, among others. Experiences available include mobile hikes, performances, mobile augmented reality, receptions and in-gallery documentation of works that have been created around the world.

Co-curator Hana Iverson says what the artists do is take everyday technologies to explore urban landscapes and create participatory art experiences. “This is not art as ‘rarified object located in an elite institution’” she says. “This is public art, accessible in the context and sequence of our everyday lives. But it is invisible, ephemeral and magical.”

The exhibition, sponsored by the Center for Mobilities Research and Policy at Drexel University and co-curated by Sheller, Iverson and Los Angeles based artist Jeremy Hight is presented at these different venues and on the street.

Kemp, TX (PRWEB) February 21, 2012

The MGS-150KVA-480-10X100A power transformer substation allows operators to tap into 480V three phase power sources and step this current down to useable 120/208Y output for powering a wide variety of tools and equipment including electric motors which require linear output and computers or lighting which require non-linear current. The 208Y output on this portable transformer/distribution system is a standard neutral WYE configuration which gives the unit added versatility and functionality. This portable transformer is ideal for operators who need to tap into and utilize 480VAC power sources outside of the work area such as when working with new building construction or performing plant turnarounds. The MGS-150KVA-480-10X100A is designed for use with three phase 480 VAC which it steps down to 120 and 240 VAC and distributes via included receptacles. This portable power transformer distributes 120VAC single phase through four GFI protected receptacles and 208Y via ten 100 amp ADR1044 outlets, providing operators with multiple connection capability from a single unit. The transformer on this unit is configured to be NEMA 3r compliant, and safe connection to 480 VAC is provided through a 400 amp fused ON/OFF main disconnect switch. Further protection is provided by ten 100 amp 3 phase breakers on the 208Y side and four 20 amp breakers on the 120VAC side. A heavy duty 2” square steel tube cage equipped with a single centrally located lifting eyelet and rectangular integral skid pockets provides a rugged platform for the transformer and control box assembly and allows operators to easily load, unload, and transport the unit from one location to another using forklifts or cranes. This portable power distribution system is ideal for operators who require the ability to power not only the equipment and motors common to work sites, but the lighting and computers often used in portable offices and management buildings as well. These portable substations are also popular on jobsites where hazardous location and explosion proof lighting and equipment are used due to their high reliability and multiple output configurations.

“The MGS-150KVA-480-10X100A power distribution substation is designed to distribute three phase power for both motor and lighting loads, making it extremely versatile.” said Rob Bresnahan from Larson Electronics’ Magnalight.com. “These power distribution substations are ideal for taking three phase power and giving operators outlets for single phase grinders, pumps and lighting. We can customize the outlet configuration, transformer type and size and panel configuration based on the needs of the customers working in the oil fields, working on plant turnarounds, bridges, etc.”

Larson Electronics’ Magnalight.com is a manufacturer and carries a large inventory of power distribution substations, solar powered generators, inline transformers, hazardous location lights, intrinsically safe lights and explosion proof fans. Magnalight maintains custom design capability and can configure power substations and transformers according to customer requirements.

Question by Southsider: Are GFCI outlet’s o.k. for electronics like Xbox / laptops, etc ? what are the risks?
Realized that we’ve been using some 3 prong outlets that are not grounded; live in an old house and not financially ready to re-wire. (fairly certain with other history of electricity in the house that re-wiring is ultimately needed) – Before calling in an electrician, curious if we go the GFCI route – can those outlets be used for electronics without damaging the equipment? I heard GFCI proptects the person using it .. and trying to see if it offers other protection too – thanks

Best answer:

Answer by jad62
They’re just a regular electrical outlet, but have a built-in circuit breaker like the type you see in the bathroom or around the kitchen sink. It’s added protection in case you come in contact with something dangerous, like a bad connection in an appliance. As far as for electronics, better to go with surge protectors, etc.

Be Prepared This Small Business Tax Season with Five Tips from BizFilings

Karen Kobelski, general manager of BizFilings

Madison, WI (PRWEB) February 21, 2012

For small business owners, even thinking about tax season may bring up feelings of anxiety. However, small businesses have many tax options and deductions available to them — and the sooner planning for taxes start, the better off entrepreneurs will be. BizFilings, a leader in online incorporation and a supporter of small businesses, offers these five tips for maximizing your deductions and making filing taxes more of a cakewalk than a headache:

1. Get organized! In the hectic life as a small business owner, taxes can seem foreign and daunting. Take steps now to get ahead, organizing your receipts, records and tax documents. Be sure to save all information you receive in the mail — such as 1099 forms, W-2s and other documents of interest. Organization can be key when asking a tax professional to help file your tax return, as he or she will be better able to define relevant deductions.

Getting home office deductions organized is also important around this time of year. Home office space that’s used strictly for business (no personal use allowed) can allow entrepreneurs to deduct rent, utilities, improvements to the home, and more for this designated area — but there are strict requirements. It’s important to know the exact square footage of the space used as a home office, as well as the total square footage of a home. A tax official can help determine the tax deductible amount of expenses based on these facts. For more information on what can and can’t be deducted, use the Home Office Deduction Tool.

2. Make sure you’re filling out the right forms. Filing taxes isn’t a one-size-fits-all opportunity. Different business formations, accordingly, will file tax documents unique to their entity type. For example, a 1040 individual income tax return must be filed by an LLC, a C corporation or an S corporation but each of those business entity types require additional distinct forms to be filed. . BizFilings has created a business type tax comparison chart to detail which forms are required for which formations, as well as the different benefits and considerations that each business formation provides.

“It’s true that there are many different tax advantages to different business structures,” says Karen Kobelski, vice president, small business sales, service & digital marketing of BizFilings. “What’s important for entrepreneurs is to form the business entity that will serve them best — both at tax time and beyond.”

3. Stay on top of the tax updates that impact your business. This year, the IRS is introducing the 1099K, a form that documents the gross amounts businesses paid by credit card, electronic transfer or via online merchants like PayPal. These forms will be sent in the mail to appropriate businesses, but entrepreneurs who don’t receive the form may want to check with the IRS and determine if the 1099K is needed. For more updates and changes, entrepreneurs can visit the IRS’ website.

4. Increase contributions when possible. Though the calendar says 2012, there are still actions that can be taken to impact 2011’s taxes. Small business owners who haven’t already done so can still consider contributing to an IRA (either traditional or Roth). Contributing to a traditional IRA can lower your taxes, and the contribution in the retirement account will compound tax-free. The maximum IRA contribution for 2011 is $ 5,000.

5. Use a professional to make sure you receive all the benefits and deductions that you deserve. Above and beyond these tips, there are often deductions that are easily overlooked — like business gifts, office supplies, parking, postage, and even taxi fares. To learn more about maximizing your tax deductions, visit the BizFilings small business resources learning center. The Learning Center has information about deductions and credits, as well as tax benefits exclusive to corporations. It also may be best to consult an accountant who is familiar with small business taxes and can help you get the most out of your tax return.

Answer by bdancer222
The person’s estate would be responsible for paying all debts before any assets could be distributed to the heirs. If there were no assets, the creditors would end up charging off the debt as uncollectible.

Question by : What kind of computer electronics career makes 125/h?
A few months ago I decided to go to an automotive school for a year and my electronics instructor was telling us about computer electronics jobs and he said some school that are recommended by microsoft, after 2 years you can start off making $ 125.00 an hour.
What exactly do you go for to make that kind of money?
It kinda made me feel like I made a bad choice because an Auto tech. won’t make anywhere near that. I’m still not even sure about my career choice, after-all, and my tuition isn’t cheap -.-
I know it’s a for profit school but the instructors aren’t any part of it, also, he was telling us about careers that aren’t even related to the school I’m attending.

Best answer:

Answer by Redjr01
Stick with what you like. It sounds like your teacher is badly misinformed. There was once a time where you could make 125/hr in technology if you had leading edge skills. You don’t get those skills by going to a school for two years. A lot of those career type schools like to hype because they are for profit schools and the more hype they generate the more students enroll.

Anyway, with outsourcing and H1B visas, technology fields are globally competitive. Microsoft picks from the cream of the crop including those engineering students from Ivy league schools. So, Microsoft is a business and they are not going to pay a student from a two year school 125/hr when they can get seasoned professionals for a lot less. Increased competition for these jobs have knocked down salaries and that’s a fact. So, if you like working with cars and electronics, stick with it. Listen to your teacher and you will be chasing dreams that may never occur.

This is one instance where I would have to see it to believe it. Ask this teacher if he knows anyone that graduated from a two year school making 125/hr with Microsoft and ask if you can meet with this person to discuss how this person accomplished this in such a tight market.

Aurora, CO (PRWEB) February 14, 2012

Industrial sustainability and cost savings through proper reconditioning of industrial electric equipment such as switchgear and circuit breakers will be the main topics at the 15th annual Electrical Safety, Reliability and Sustainability Conference & Exhibition, sponsored by PEARL, May 5-7, 2012, at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel in Pittsburgh.

In addition to two days of technical presentations related to electrical maintenance, reconditioning, and life extension, the event also includes a two-day, two-track electrical training program for electrical technicians looking to improve their skills.

Presentations start on Sunday with opening remarks from Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl*, followed by insight on building a remanufactured product industry from William Gager, founder of the Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA). The day also features hot topics and business practices in cold economies; roundtable discussion groups; and a look at the Buckeye Bullet II, the world’s fastest battery-powered car.

On Monday, electrical shock and arc flash protection pioneer H. Landis “Lanny” Floyd, II of DuPont will deliver the keynote address, which looks at the state of electrical safety in the U.S. and the hidden costs of electrical reliability in dollars, employee injuries, and related costs. He will also review the evolution of standards, codes, and regulations as they relate to personnel protection – both at the customer site as well as in the PEARL member electrical reconditioning shops. Additional presentations include Nigel McQuin, Senior Member of IEEE, and Europe’s CIGRE and IET organizations, and his perspective on circuit breaker conversions and switchgear life extensions, as well as other presentations on equipment safety operations, and coaching and leadership. Finally, PEARL member volunteers will give updates on the latest PEARL standards, ANSI efforts, and a proposal for a new PEARL Technician Certification electrical training program.

The conference also offers a two-day, dual-track electrical training course that focuses on low-voltage circuit breakers and medium-voltage contactors, running concurrently with the technical program. Day one involves classroom work presented by Shermco Industries at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel, while day two offers hands-on electrical training presented by Voyten Electric & Electronics, Inc. at The Motor Control Center. During the training, veteran electrical technicians will share equipment-specific defects and trouble areas commonly found in service-aged equipment.

Interested attendees and exhibitors should contact the PEARL office at (877) 287-3275, send an email to pearl(at)pearl1(dot)org, or visit http://www.Pearl1.org. Corporations that join PEARL within 30 days of the end of the conference will have up to 100% of their conference registration fee applied towards their first year’s PEARL membership.

*Mayor Luke Ravenstahl’s opening remarks are subject to change without notice based on his honor’s schedule.
