Question by : I graduated with a degree in Electronics Engineering 6 yrs ago in the Philippines…?
I graduated with a degree in Electronics Engineering in the Phils, I have not worked related to this field since and now I would like to pursue a career in IT, preferably in Network Administration here in the US. What advise would you give me to pursue this career? Should I go back to school and take a Masters Degree or enroll and take some credits so I can do internships?

Best answer:

Answer by Sergio__
To find jobs as an IT you’ll need certification for the different types of technologies in the market.
I would advice to get a masters in electrical engineering (I’m an EE as well so my opinion is biased) since it pays more than IT jobs and that’s what you went to college for.

Class Action of Blind Persons against Disney to Go to Trial on June 5 in Los Angeles, Notes Class Counsel Forizs & Dogali, P.A.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 16, 2012

On June 5, 2012, trial will commence in an action brought against Walt Disney Parks & Resorts by a class consisting of all blind visitors to the Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts. In Shields v. Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, the class action pending in Los Angeles, the class alleges that the Disneyland and Walt Disney World theme parks refuse to accommodate the needs of blind visitors, in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. An attorney for the nationwide class, Andy Dogali of Forizs & Dogali, P.A., Tampa, Florida, summarizes the Plaintiffs’ claims, which are stated in their Amended Complaint and further described in the 45-page Class Certification Order entered by Judge Dolly M. Gee, United States District Judge, as follows:

    Disney does not provide park schedules, park maps, or dining menus in formats which are accessible to blind persons, such as in electronic form, Braille, or large print;
    Disney does not accommodate the needs of guide dogs or their owners in the parks;
    Disney’s websites do not accommodate blind persons who use screen reader programs to access information;
    Disney does not accommodate the needs of blind persons during live parades and shows;
    Disney provides neither sighted guides for blind visitors nor discounted admission for sighted companions who accompany and support blind persons in the parks;
    Disney’s costumed characters discriminate against blind visitors who are accompanied by guide dogs;
    Lockers at Disneyland are inaccessible for disabled persons;
    Parking garages at Disneyland are inaccessible for disabled persons.

On April 1, 2011, the blind plaintiffs and Disney commenced an extended mediation, through which they attempted to settle the various claims, and the court allowed a number of postponements of the lawsuit while the negotiations continued. On Friday, February 10, the most recent deadline established by the Court, the blind plaintiffs and Disney reported to the Court that their negotiation efforts have failed. As a result, the parties have been ordered to trial on June 5.

The two plaintiffs who have been certified to represent the class of blind visitors to Disney’s theme parks are Cari Shields of Temecula, California and Amber Boggs of Northridge, California. Ms. Shields and Ms. Boggs may be contacted through either of their attorneys: Mr. Dogali, who has prosecuted and defended a number of class actions around the country, and Gene Feldman, who operates a boutique disability law practice in L.A. Contact information for Mr. Dogali is available at http://www.forizs-dogali.com, and for Mr. Feldman at http://www.californiadisabilitylawfirm.com.

Shields v. Walt Disney Parks & Resorts is Case 2:10-cv-05810-DMG-FMO in United States District Court for the Central District of California. The parties’ February 10 report to the Court of the impasse in their settlement negotiations is available at: http://www.forizs-dogali.com/pdf/Disney.021012.Joint.Status.Report.of.Impasse.pdf. The 45-page certification order entered by the Court on June 29, 2011 is available at: http://www.forizs-dogali.com/pdf/Disney%20Certification%20Order.pdf.

Question by Albert: What do you think when consumer electronics proposed to develop D-VHS player/recorder supporting VC-1 & H.264?
When both SMPTE and VCEG developed VC-1 and H.264, respectively, I am not sure when JVC, the developer of D-VHS, will redevelop to produce another model of D-VHS player/recorder supporting that new video codecs. Currently, D-VHS still supports old video codecs such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 for recording both standard and high definition digital video.

What do you think? What is your reaction when most consumer electronics company will develop a new D-VHS player/recorder supporting both old and new video codecs?

Best answer:

Answer by TV guy
Both Blu-ray and HD-DVD support VC-1 and H.264.
No consumer will bother with tapes any more.

Electronic Waveform Lab Releases a Major Upgrade of its Flagship Pain Management and Rehabilitation Product: The H-Wave® Instrument

The H-Wave® Instrument

Huntington Beach, CA (PRWEB) February 16, 2012

The device is used in clinics and can also be prescribed for home use where patients can treat themselves. The company first introduced the electrotherapy device in 1981. Since that time H-Wave® has built its reputation as one of the most unique and effective rehabilitative treatments in the country. With the growing concern of abuse and side effects associated with prescription drug use an effective alternative such as H-Wave has been growing in popularity. Published research has shown that the technology of H-Wave® represents a paradigm shift in electro-therapeutic treatment and numerous objective benefits have been observed.

The newest generation of the H-Wave® (Model H4) Instrument is smaller, lighter, and more durable than previous models. It is also easier to use, improving compliance. The new device can be set into pre-set mode in which the patient only has access to the frequencies/modes that they need. For clinicians or advanced users, the device can be used in Manual Mode allowing users to access a larger range of frequencies/modes. A new digital timer also allows for better tracking of treatment times. The unit boasts larger and easier to control dials (especially for those that might have hand injuries/weakness).

The new “No Load Trip” feature turns off the device and alerts the user when a lead/electrode connection is broken or insecure. This eliminates the possibility of a wire unplugging from an electrode and directly contacting a patent’s skin and causing discomfort.

The unit’s battery life has increased to 10+ hours, more than double the life of the previous model. The unit also carries an improved charging indicator which prevents overcharging or hurt internal battery pack. Also, a more environmentally friendly NiMh rechargeable battery pack can be replaced by the user without sending the device in for repair.

The unit has proven its effectiveness in professional sports and clinical use. According to Gary Vitti, the Head Athletic Trainer for the Los Angeles Lakers, “I just finished my thirteenth year with the Los Angeles Lakers and I wanted you to know the H-Wave® continues to be my electro-modality of choice for pain” Joseph DiGivonna of NovaCare Rehabilitation also writes “I have used your device on approximately 100 patients over the course of the past 18 months. I have personally thought it to be the single most effective modality in my arsenal.” The first H-Wave H4 sold was to the 2010-2011 Superbowl Champion Green Bay Packers who own more than 20 portable H-Wave devices that are in constant use.

The H-Wave® Instrument now retails for $ 3,300, a moderate increase over the previous model. The unit can also be rented for $ 330 per month with rental applying towards the purchase price. Electronic Waveform Laboratories continues to offer a full money back guarantee on the new unit.

Question by : How much would a contract electronics manufacturer charge to manufacture a handheld GPS device?
I’m looking into starting a GPS retail company, but I don’t have the resources to manufacture my own product. I don’t have the specifications of the GPS device yet, so I can’t get an exact quote from any manufacturers, but does anyone have a general idea of how much an electronics manufacturer might charge?

Best answer:

Answer by Andrew
Costs vary so much depending on what you are looking for. What you need is a manufacturing partner who can handle all the logistics and component procurement for you as well as assembly. If you find a company who can do all these things then you generally save cash and they also usually will pay the costs of warehousing etc. I work for a company who does this exact thing. No company will be able to give you an estimate anywhere close to the right answer without speaking to you first about your exact requirements. Give us a call and they’ll be able to give you a proper idea once they understand your needs more. http://www.djsonltd.com/ Thats our website if you are interested. Question by fleepflawp: What is that humming noise you hear when some electronics are turned on?
I don’t mean the whirr of a computer fan or that sort of grinding sound of a computer operating; more like a tv w/o the cable turned on or computer monitor w/o the computer….an almost imperceptible hum in the air.

Best answer:

Answer by RICH
As for TV’s, there is a built-in ‘degausser’ coil that causes a ‘hum’ when the TV is first turned on. It is a coil of wire that is wrapped around the front of the TV tube. (This does not apply to flat screen TV’s.) This short burst of electricity through the coil prevents color saturation on parts of the screen, that can be caused by moving the TV, a vacuum cleaner going by, or anything magnetic nearby, or passing by, (like a speaker, which has a large magnet.) It keeps the color uniform across the screen.

Question by Om: Electronics – Why in a butterworth filter is the q factor 0.707?
I understand that this is 1/root2 but I’m not sure where it comes from or how it is derived.

Best answer:

Answer by Cirric
Hi. That number is equal to the square root of 2 divided by 2. This is half the hypotenuse of a right triangle with the 2 sides equal to 1. I would expect the filter uses trig in its calculation of ‘q’.

Broadcast TV Monthly Per Subscriber Retransmission Fees up by 47% According to Latest SNL Kagan Study

Monterey, Calif. (PRWEB) February 15, 2012

A newly-released SNL Kagan study analyzing Q3 ’11 broadcast TV retransmission revenue shows a group of 16 TV station owners grew their average monthly retransmission fees per multichannel subscriber by 46.8% between the third quarter of 2009 and the third quarter of 2011 to reach an estimated 33 cents. By comparison, average Q3’10 fees were estimated at 26 cents.

SNL Kagan’s most recent analysis for third quarter 2011 ranked Univision Communications first at 61 cents. Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc., with an estimated $ 35.9 million in retrans revenue in third quarter 2011, ranked second at 49 cents per sub per month. Newport Television LLC and LIN TV Corp. ranked third at 48 cents each. CBS Corp., whose owned-and-operated stations generated an estimated $ 52.3 million in retrans revenue in third quarter 2011, ranked fourth with retransmission fees reaching approximately 45 cents.

The study is based on an overlap analysis that combines third quarter 2011 retransmission revenues and overall multichannel subscriber figures in each of the broadcasters’ TV markets.

Going forward, SNL Kagan anticipates that average retransmission fees will remain on an upward trend, given the leverage of valuable programming in 2012, including the Summer Olympics to be held in London from July 27 to Aug. 12.

Question by Bermudah: Can electromagnetic fields cause serious damage to other electronics such as your phone?
When I bought a Z-5500 speakerset a year ago it came with a warning that the sub had a big electromagnetic field and that you need to keep every electronic at least 60 cm away from it. My subwoofer is placed right under my computer, about 40 cm distance I suppose, and I never had any problems whatsoever… just what exactly does it do to harm your stuff?
Alright thanks for the info :)

Best answer:

Answer by Yikes
Yes if the electromagnetic pulse is really strong.

But you are not talking electromagnetic fields. You are talking about pure magnetism. The sub woofers have a really strong magnet. The 60 cm distance is exaggerated (for the company’s legal protection). You can test the limit by bring a permanent magnet slowly towards the back of the speaker ( when the speaker isn’t working) and notice the distance when you can feel the attraction between the magnets. Most of the time the attraction only starts from within the speaker cabinet so don’t take the cabinet off.
