A thyristor is also called a silicon controlled rectifier.

a) it can be used to control high voltages and currents
b) The device works by allowing current to flow until a particular threshold level is reached. once this threshold level is reached, current is shut off (very basic expalnation).
c) The answer to this part depends upon the circuit the Thyristor is connected to. I can’t see the circuit so I can’t give a good answer!
